Build Your Own Whirligig

We are so excited to offer once again the " Build your own Whirligig" competition! Let's see your whimsical, colorful, kinetic outdoor sculptures for a chance to win cash prizes! We are calling for Whirligigs made with found materials so search your back yard and garage for unused treasures. Then bring together your friends, family, neighbors, or co-workers and "Give it a Whirl" in a creative way. The three categories are , professionals/artists, amateur & kids. Judging will take place on Saturday morning of the festival with the winners announced mid-afternoon on the whirligig stag. Pre-registration is required and can be done through the Whirligig Festival website where you can see the full list of details. Build it high, low, wide, or even with a theme – just build it!

Things to keep in mind:
Whirligigs must be made from recycled or “found” materials.
Whirligigs must whirl by only wind power; no other power source may be used.
Winners from the previous year(s) may not resubmit the same whirligig for consideration. Reusing pieces of
previously judged whirligigs are acceptable, but major changes must be added or made to be considered. For
example, a new paint job or different dangling pieces would not be considered a significant change.
All entries must be delivered and installed by the artist Friday, November 3rd

Entries must remain on display for the entire festival.

Entry categories: Professional, Amateur and Kids (under 17)

One winner in each category will be chosen and receive $250.
Ribbons for recognition and honorable mention may be determined by the judges.
Judges may remain anonymous and include several local artists, members of the festival board and members of
the Vollis Simpson Whirligig Park.
Whirligigs must be freestanding for display during the festival. The area is concrete so you may use weighted anchors for support but tie downs cannot be anchored into the ground.
Winners will be announced on Saturday, November 4th in the afternoon (typically between 2-3pm) at the Whirligig Park stage.
